After many enjoyable years of making load bed canvas covers/tilts for the VW community, I have decided that the time has come to stop taking on new orders so that I can focus on my growing family commitments. As I am closing down, I have updated my website to reflect this and included a reminder of the limitations of the load bed canvas cover/tilt.

The load bed canvas covers/tilts were designed, sold, and supplied strictly as an exterior vehicle load bed cover for cargo protection and vehicle preservation. It must NEVER be used as a camper, makeshift tent, sleeping enclosure, or temporary shelter.

 

The load bed canvas covers/tilts were manufactured using a high-quality marine canvas featuring a Polyurethane (PU) backing for maximum water resistance [Sauleda Acrylic Canvas PU Coated]. The material has two critical safety limitations if used inappropriately as a camper, makeshift tent, sleeping enclosure, or temporary shelter.

 

RISK OF SUFFOCATION: The PU backed material is not a breathable fabric and although the cover is not sealed to the vehicle, ventilation would be reduced when fully closed increasing the risk of dangerous gas build up and suffocation. It is strictly unfit for human habitation or sleeping.

FIRE HAZARD: The fabric is non-fire rated. Running any camping stove, gas heater, lantern, or open flame underneath or in close proximity of the load bed canvas cover/tilt poses an immediate fire hazard and a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It is strictly unfit for human habitation or sleeping.

  

 

Clarification of Historical Media:
I have also recently reviewed my historical media files and note that my historical website prior to 2018 utilised the term ‘camper’ to describe the load bed canvas cover/tilt setups. A single customer-submitted photo was also included on the post 2018 website, which showed a modified sun awning/canopy with a mattress under the load bed canvas cover/tilt. I want to state categorically that this setup and any use as a camper, makeshift tent, sleeping enclosure, or temporary shelter is highly dangerous and a severe misuse of the product. Any other online media showing this content in such a way as a camper, makeshift tent, sleeping enclosure, or temporary shelter is outside of the original design purpose of the load bed canvas cover/tilt and a severe misuse of the product.
